*The morning of October 12, 2014 Stewart Wechsler found a flying squirrel tail and 2 legs at Lincoln Park. The tail has long fur that flares out flat like grand fir needles for aerodynamics. Who took the rest of this individual? Owl, raccoon, coyote, weasel, outdoor cat? A decade and a half ago there was evidence of flying squirrels at Camp Long too. They may still be there, hard to know.

It’s likely difficult for them to travel between forest patches, so there could be well hidden individuals with small ranges. They are so secluded that though evidence of them is rare, it is not necessarily a sign of their population abundance.
